Motion Capture Rumor For George Miller’s ‘Justice League: Mortal’ Debunked

The rumor concerning a heavy use of motion capture for George Miller’s Justice League: Mortal has been debunked.

George Miller’s Justice League: Mortal will always be fascinating for DC fans to imagine what an earlier version of the live-action team could’ve looked like. While some designs for the Mad Max director’s take on the heroes made their way on online, fans are still waiting for Ryan Unicomb’s documentary diving into the plot of the film, the costumes and the action set pieces. But in a recent interview with ScreenRant, Unicomb debunked a specific rumor about the film’s use of motion capture.

According to the director, the rumor that the film would’ve been shot entirely using motion capture is false. Unicomb explained that the idea was never even considered because the budget required to do so would’ve been “impossible.” He also explained that it’s the biggest misconception that fans have about George Miller’s Justice League: Mortal.

“To be honest, the biggest thing that I see all the time is that people [say], “I’m so thankful it got canceled because who’d want a motion capture, animated Justice League movie in 2008?” And that’s not what was gonna happen. There was never a conversation; that was never a legitimate thing that was gonna happen. Like, a 3D animated, mocap-based movie. The logistics behind that and the budget behind that would be astronomical and impossible. So, that’s probably the biggest thing that I see.”

Are you still interested in seeing the documentary? Do you think the film would’ve been a hit? Sound off in the comments section below!

George Miller’s Justice League Mortal would have starred Armie Hammer as Batman, D.J. Cotrona as Superman, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, Common as Green Lantern, Santiago Cabrera as Aquaman, Adam Brody as The Flash, Hugh Keays-Byrne as Martian Manhunter, Jay Baruchel as Maxwell Lord and Teresa Palmer as Talia Al Ghul. Late Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin was also on board as Wally West.
