‘Get Out’ Director Jordan Peele Eyed To Direct ‘Akira’

Jordan Peele, director of the horror hit 'Get Out' is being eyed to potentially direct the live-action adaptation of 'Akira' for Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. has been trying to get a live-action adaptation of the 1988 sci-fi animated film Akira off the ground for a long time. Many filmmakers have been rumored for the project, but it always seemed that it would remain in development hell indefinitely.

Now, it looks like Akira may potentially be freed from the sunken place – that is, if Jordan Peele signs on to direct the film. That’s right, the comedian known for being the other half of Key & Peele hit it out of the park with his incredible horror film Get Out, and it looks like Warner Bros. is impressed enough with his sensibilities for him to potentially direct Akira.

Tracking Board editor-in-chief Jeff Sneider expresses that Peele is not in-talks. But that doesn’t change the fact that Warner Bros. really wants him for the job.

Get Out was a major hit for Universal Pictures and Blumhouse, and that’s mostly due to Peele’s incredible craftsmanship. Not only did he put together a brilliant social commentary about race in America, but he also showcased that he’s a master in building tension and suspense.

Once again, this report only expresses that the ball is now in Peele’s court on whether or not he’d like to enter negotiations to direct Akira. But if he were to sign on, this would be absolutely exciting.

What do you guys think? Is Jordan Peele the right call in bringing a live-action Akira to life? Sound off in the comments below, and be sure to follow Heroic Hollywood for more news regarding Akira and more Warner Bros. productions.
