First Look At ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ Reveals Paul Rudd, Synopsis & Poster

New photos and story information from Ghostbusters: Afterlife provide details Paul Rudd’s character and the rest of the newcomers to the franchise.

Director Jason Reitman is set to deliver a new entry in the Ghostbusters franchise that his father, Ivan Reitman, helped kick off with the first film back in 1984. Due to be released in theaters next summer, Ghostbusters: Afterlife will center on a new cast of characters that includes Paul Rudd’s school teacher, Mr. Grooberson.

In addition to Paul Rudd, Ghostbusters: Afterlife will introduce Carrie Coon as a single mom named Callie along with new children Phoebe and Trevor, played McKenna Grace and Finn Wolfhard, respectively. During an interview with Vanity Fair, Jason Reitman offered new insight into the family and how their adventure in Ghostbusters: Afterlife begins when they move to a small town in Oklahoma after Callie inherits property from the father she did not know:

“As the family arrives at an old farm, they begin to discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters. Trevor and Phoebe are about to find out who their grandfather was and whether they’re ready to pick up the proton pack themselves.”

Jason Reitman also revealed that the story will tie into the climactic event that occurred in the first Ghostbusters film, which is now referred to as the “Manhattan Crossrip.” In fact, Paul Rudd’s Mr. Grooberson was a child during the “Manhattan Crossrip” and finds himself eager to share his experience with a new generation who thinks of the event as a myth by the time Ghostbusters: Afterlife begins.
