Yesterday, it was reported Jason Reitman is writing and directing a new Ghostbusters film set in the same universe as the original 1984 classic, which was directed by the filmmaker’s father Ivan Reitman. Now, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson (who starred in the first film as Raymond “Ray” Stantz and Winston Zeddemore, respectively) have expressed their support of the film on Twitter, with Aykroyd suggesting that he will make an appearance in Jason Reitman’s film if called upon.

Whether or not original cast members Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Bill Murray will return is currently unknown (Harold Ramis, who portrayed Egon Spengler, passed away in 2014), though the film will be set in the present day and includes new characters.
Directed by Jason Reitman from a script he co-wrote with Poltergeist remake director Gil Kena, the new Ghostbusters project will begin filming in the coming months.
The Untitled Ghostbusters Sequel is scheduled to be released in theaters in 2020.
