Yesterday, it was reported Jason Reitman is writing and directing a new Ghostbusters film set in the same universe as the original 1984 classic, which was directed by the filmmaker’s father Ivan Reitman. Now, a new teaser has been released that features an unseen individual working on a machine inside a decrepit barn as a storm begins outside. As viewers are taken inside of the barn, Elmer Bernstein’s haunting score from the first Ghostbusters film begins to play as a strand of ectoplasm can be seen dangling from a nearby fence. When the unseen individual succeeds in activating the machine, a glow similar to that emitted from the classic proton packs fills the barn while the wind lifts a tarp to reveal the Ecto-1.
You can watch the teaser below!
Whether or not original cast members Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Bill Murray will return is currently unknown (Harold Ramis, who portrayed Egon Spengler, passed away in 2014), though the film will be set in the present day and includes new characters.
Directed by Jason Reitman from a script he co-wrote with Poltergeist remake director Gil Kena, the new Ghostbusters project will begin filming in the coming months.
The Untitled Ghostbusters Sequel is scheduled to be released in 2020.
