If you were a kid in the nineties, this news may have you running and buying this particular toy. The Ghostbusters and the Transformers franchises are joining forces in a crossover comic event starting in June later this year. The event will feature the origin story of Ectotron, which is the transformed version of the Ghostbusters’ iconic vehicle, the ECTO-1, which you can check out in all of its glory down below:
IDW Publishing will release a five-issue tie-in comic telling the story of the newest addition in the Transformers franchise. The series will be written by Erik Burnham and drawn by artist Dan Schoening. Also, the Ectotron toy, made by Hasbro, will be available for pre-order directly through them as well as GameStop and EB Games Canada for its release this summer.
Both franchises are also seeing a revival on the silver screen. On one hand, Ghostbusters will be catching ghosts once again next year with Jason Reitman, son of the original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, at the helm. Paul Feig, Leslie Jones and other cast members of the 2016 all-female Ghostbusters team didn’t enjoy the news as much, arguing that the franchise should have continued with them and not with a new cast. We’re still expecting to hear about the complete cast of the new movie, although it’s rumored that the original team will come back alongside a younger cast of Ghostbusters.
On the other hand, the Transformers franchise received high praise from fans and critics alike with Bumblebee last year. This movie saw a change of style between what Michael Bay had done with the previous movies with director Travis Knight approaching the Transformers characters with a more intimate story and a lot fewer explosions. Transformers producers are already working on a Bumblebee sequel and Optimus Prime film as well.
Will you read the origin story of Ectotron or buy the action figure? Alot of us are nineties kids at Heroic Hollywood, so we will! Sound off in the comment section below!
While we wait on more details regarding Reitman’s Ghostbusters and the upcoming Transformers films, here’s the synopsis for Bumblebee:
On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.
Directed by Travis Knight from a script written by Christina Hodson, the film stars Hailee Steinfeld, Pamela Adlon, John Cena, Stephen Schneider, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Jason Ian Drucker, Kenneth Choi, Ricardo Hoyos, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, and Grace Dzienny.
