Kong: Skull Island is set in the same universe as 2014’s Godzilla, which is all a set up for 2020’s Godzilla vs. Kong. SciFi Japan managed to get their hands on it on the credits roll from Warner Bros. They revealed that the film somehow showcases Godzilla and other classic Toho monsters. The full line is this:
“Characters of “Godzilla,” “King Ghidorah,” “Mothra” and “Rodan” created and owned by Toho Co., Ltd.”
If the characters were simply hinted at, then this tag wouldn’t be necessary. However, things get murky once the characters are shown on screen or heard, so the tag seems to hint at a reference of some sort. Latino Review’s Kellvin Chavez has also confirmed, via a tweet, that there is in fact a post-credits scene.
Could it be that we’ll see Godzilla and other monsters in the post-credits scene? One could imagine a scene evocative of the one seen in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice where the remaining members of the Justice League were revealed, albeit with monsters instead of heroes.
We’re not sure what to expect at this point, but it would be welcome to see Godzilla grace the screen once more before his sophomore film, Godzilla: King of Monsters, hits theaters in 2019.
Kong: Skull Island is directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts and stars Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, Jing Tian, Toby Kebbell and John C. Reilly.
