‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ Director Hints At Monarch Involvement In Film

Principal photography on the highly-anticipated crossover monster movie, Godzilla vs Kong is just about to get started, with Adam Wingard (The Guest; Death Note) set to direct a modern take on the two most iconic giant monsters in cinematic history battling it out.

Although plot details remain scarce at the moment, we now know that Godzilla vs Kong will somehow involve the the scientific organization known as Monarch. Monarch was featured in 2014’s Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island. It will also be featured in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. 

Wingard teased the involvement of Monarch on his official Instagram. The photo features the logo of the organization and gives eager fans a glimpse at what’s to come with the new film:

The film is set to be the culmination of Legendary Entertainment’s cinematic MonsterVerse following 2014’s GodzillaKong: Skull Island and the upcoming Godzilla: King of the Monsters starring Millie Bobby Brown. Filming will take place in Atlanta with Wingard directing the project from a script by from a script written by Terry Rossio (Pirates of the Caribbean), Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne (Star Trek Beyond), Lindsey Beer (The Kingkiller Chronicles), Cat Vasko (Queen of the Air), T.S. Nowlin (The Maze RunnerPacific Rim: Uprising) and J. Michael Straczynski (World War Z).

Brown will be reprising her role from Godzilla: King of the Monsters alongside Alexander Skarsgård, Eiza González, Julian Dennison, and Brian Tyree Henry. Godzilla vs. Kong is slated to hit theaters May 22, 2020 but first up is Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters also stars Kyle Chandler, Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Zhang Ziyi, Anthony Ramos, Ken Watanabe, Randy Havens, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Aisha Hinds, Thomas Middleditch, Bradley Whitford, Sally Hawkins and Charles Dance. Here’s the official synopsis:

The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.
