Actor Angus MacInnes, known for his role as Jon "Gold Leader" Vander in A New Hope returns in 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.'
It turns out Director Gareth Edwards found old negatives and archive footage from the original Star Wars film and had his team restore it to today’s high-quality standards.
“They contacted me and said they wanted to use the footage and [asked] could they?” MacInnes (Gold Leader) exclaimed. “And I said yeah!”
The movie’s producers requested the actor re-dub his voice over the footage, so he was brought in to read a few new lines. MacInnes explained that thanks to the similar nature of the two battles, it was easy to fit fresh dialogue over the old shots.
“If you look at it, like it was a bunch of spitfires, they basically go through the same routine everytime they attack. This is very similar, but things like ‘watch out for those towers’ was a new line.”
