SPOILERS: Did ‘Gotham’ Really Just Kill Off One Of Its Biggest Characters?

Warning: The following post contains major spoilers for the latest episode of Gotham!

The final season of Gotham is currently underway and the most recent episode featured the death of a major character.

At the end of the fourth season of Gotham, Selina Kyle was paralyzed by the sadistic Jeremiah Valeska and while she was healed by a magical seed given to her by Ivy, the cure fueled Selina’s rage and sent her down a path of revenge that has been part of the focus of the final season. Selina’s quest for revenge culminated when she dressed up as Jeremiah’s cohort Ecco and snuck up to the sinister villain, stabbing him multiple times. Although Bruce Wayne eventually pulled Selina away and death on Gotham has often been a temporary setback, the camera lingered on a shot of Jeremiah’s lifeless body before the episode concluded, insinuating the prototype Joker character was truly deceased.

Of course, fans have been quick to note that the final season has yet to feature scenes with Jeremiah that were included in trailers for Gotham season 5 and an episode dedicated to ACE Chemicals is still slated to air, indicating Jeremiah’s supposed death may not be pennant. However, actor  Cameron Mongahan has revealed he will play a mysterious third character, which could account for the aforementioned footage.
