Ben McKenzie was spotted on the set of Gotham season 5 and his character Jim Gordon has noticeably aged.
When it comes to a prequel to anything, there comes a laundry list of things that fans can be worried about. One of the most common is the worry that the prequel is there simply to show how the characters got their iconic things, such as how Michael Myers became obsessed with masks or how Han Solo got his name. Many fans thought that about Gotham, that the show would exist simply to show how Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) became obsessed with bats or how Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) got his mustache.
Over the previous four seasons of Gotham, the show has proved that it’s less of a prequel to a specific Batman and more of an alternate universe, or Elseworlds if you will, where it’s not trying to mesh right into Batman 1989 or something like that. That’s especially apparent in the latest set photos from Gotham‘s fifth and final season, titled Legend of the Dark Knight.
The photos from the Staten Island set can be found on silive.com and feature Gordon with much greyer hair than in previous seasons, but that iconic mustache is still absent. Check out the photos below.
It’s been revealed that Batman will appear in the final season of the series but to what capacity is still unknown. Since Gotham has carved its own little niche in the DC universe, it can do basically do whatever it needs to wrap up its story in a way that’s unique as opposed to filling in any backstory gaps.

With Gotham on the brink of total anarchy and cut off from the outside world, only Jim Gordon, Bruce Wayne and a handful of heroes remain behind to retake the city. Inspired by the “No Man’s Land” arc from the comics, villains including Penguin, the Riddler, the Sirens and Jeremiah have taken claim on various regions of the city. Will order be restored, or will chaos reign in Gotham?
The series stars Ben McKenzie as Jim Gordon, Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth, Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean, Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle, Cory Michael Smith as Edward Nygma, Jessica Lucas as Tabitha Galavan, and Chris Chalk as Lucius Fox.
Gotham season 5 will premiere on January 3, 2019, on Fox.
