A software engineer recently noticed that the U.S. Department of Agriculture had the fictional country of Wakanda listed as a free trade partner on its online tariff tracker. Fans will know that Wakanda comes from Marvel Studios’ Black Panther movie and the long running Black Panther comics. According to the tracker, the U.S. Government had traded ducks, donkeys and dairy cows with the comic book country. Although it’s surprising Vibranium hadn’t also made the list.
Francis Tseng, a software engineer based in New York first discovered the mistake and alerted the U.S. Department of Agriculture to Wakanda’s listing. The USDA later told The Washington Post that the Wakanda listing was simply part of a test and should have been taken down at an earlier date. Regardless, it’s still a hilarious mistake. Take a look at the listing of Wakanda as a free trade partner below.
