With Margot Robbie’s Birds of Prey currently playing in theaters, the latest episode of Grant Gustin’s The Flash saw a similar plot point from the film pop up in the story involving Sue Dearbon and Black Hole. In Margot Robbie’s Birds of Prey, Cassandra Cain swallowed Black Mask’s diamond which had all the bank details for the Bertinelli fortune encoded inside it. It’s the diamond that sparks off the hunt through Gotham City for the young teenager while Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and the rest of the team protect her.
In Grant Gustin’s The Flash, a similar moment appears towards the end of the season six episode “A Girl Named Sue.” Sue Dearbon was scanning a diamond that also had information secretly encoded inside it. When Sue scans the diamond it comes up with the logo for the Black Hole terrorist group, an over-arching threat in this season of Grant Gustin’s The Flash. It’s likely an unintentional similarity between the series and Margot Robbie’s Birds of Prey, but it’s definitely an interesting coincidence.
