HBO Max Chief Teases Greg Berlanti’s ‘Green Lantern’ Series

HBO Max’s content chief Kevin Reilly opened up about Greg Berlanti’s Green Lantern series during a recent interview.

Last October, HBO Max announced that it has teamed up with Arrowverse mastermind Greg Berlanti on two new superhero series, with one of them focusing on the Green Lantern Corps. A few months later, HBO Max Head of Original Content Sarah Aubrey revealed that the series is expected to “span several decades” and focus on “two stories about Green Lanterns on Earth.” The project will also feature the iconic DC Comics villain Sinestro.

During a recent interview with Business Insider, HBO Max’s content chief Kevin Reilly discussed what fans can expect from the Green Lantern series and the rest of the streaming service’s DC Comics projects, promising that they will have the “highest level of cinematic production values.” Here’s what Reilly told the site:

“Greg [Berlanti, who is producing a Green Lantern series for Max] has done a lot of really quality DC fare for The CW. These will not be that. These will be next step up in production value. You can expect the highest level of cinematic production values on those shows, and that’s the same for the projects we’ve announced with J.J. [Abrams].”

One of the aforementioned HBO Max projects by J. J. Abrams is a DC Comics drama revolving around characters from the Justice League Dark universe. Details are slim, but the group typically includes characters such as John Constantine, Zatanna and Swamp Thing.

A Green Lantern Corps movie is also currently in development with Geoff Johns on board as a writer and producer. Full details on Green Lantern Corps are being kept under lock and key, though the project will draw inspiration from Johns’ work on the New 52 Green Lantern comics with both Hal Jordan and John Stewart set to appear in the film.

In addition to the Green Lantern and Justice League Dark projects, HBO Max is developing a Strange Adventures DC anthology series and a DC Super Hero High show from Elizabeth Banks. News of the Green Lantern series arrived shortly after reports of HBO Max planning to produce DC projects with budgets on par with those of feature films.
