‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Director Reveals Why He Killed Off Yondu

When Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 made its way into theatres this past May, fans were shocked when Micheal Rooker’s Yondu decided to sacrifice his life for Peter Quill, leading to his death. Yondu’s death was an integral part of the narrative and Peter Quill’s arc, but regardless, his death came quite hard on most.

It turns out that Yondu’s death was heartbreaking for writer/director James Gunn as well, but to him, there’s no film without Yondu’s dying. During a Facebook Q & A, Gunn revealed that the original plan for the story wasn’t to kill Yondu, but as the story progressed, it seemed like the most logical thing to do.

Do you think James Gunn did the right thing by killing Yondu? Comment below and let us know!

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Directed by James Gunn, the film stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be released digitally in HD, 4K Ultra HD, and Disney Movies Anywhere on August 8 followed by a 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD release on August 22.
