‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2’: James Gunn Shares Behind-The Scenes…

Before the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2, director James Gunn has shared a heartfelt message and a behind-the-scenes video showing the Ravagers.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is hitting theaters in just a few short weeks, and the hype train has already left the station. To fuel fans’ anticipations, director James Gunn has shared a behind-the-scenes look at the Ravagers.

In the video, Gunn walks into a room filled with Ravager extras who are quite ecstatic to see him after a tiresome day of filming. Along with the video, Gunn posted a message directed to the extras showing his appreciation of them. Quite a positive message that reminds us that there’s more than just a director helming a project. You can check both the message and video out below.

“Over the years I’ve really come to value our background performers. Background actors (or extras) can make a scene great or kill it entirely. So when it came to casting the Ravagers extras on Vol. 2 – who had a lot of important, multi-layered scenes – we went through a painstaking process to find the best ones. First we went through thousands of headshots to find the most interesting faces and looks. From there we created a Ravager boot camp of a couple hundred people. We put them through the paces with a bunch of scenarios. And from that group we chose the Ravagers who were the most engaging, authentic, and enthusiastic. It all paid off because our Ravager scenes in the movie don’t seem like it’s a handful of paid actors and then a bunch of extras who are barely present – it seems like a large cohesive group of maniacal pirates who have been traveling the universe for decades.

Because these guys were the best they were also a lot of fun to be around on set. One day after we were done shooting they were hyped up from a good day of work. So they went outside the set door on the way to the exit and, as every crew member went to leave, they “greeted” them. I heard the hooting and hollering and asked my Associate Producer Simon what was up. He told me. And so Simon and I filmed this for you guys. Enjoy.

And thank you Ravagers – you made these days the most fun of the entire shoot. You’re an amazing bunch of guys.”

Directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Micheal Rooker, Kurt Russell, and the voices of Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits cinemas on May 5.
