'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' director James Gunn discusses how the third film will lead to new stories in the Marvel Cosmic Universe.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 not only delivered on the humor and action, but it also explored the inner turmoil of our favorite heroes, offering audiences greater insight into the team of misfits. While Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will conclude the story of the current team line-up, director James Gunn recently spoke with IGN about how the next film will kick off a new series of stories taking place in Marvel’s Cosmic Universe.
Gunn explained that both he and Kevin Feige have discussed how the next Guardians film will conclude the trilogy but that the story will lead into other films:
“We talk about it all the time. It’s already a part of what I’m doing with Marvel and the conversations that Kevin and I have every day. When we’re talking about Guardians of the Galaxy 3, and that story, that’s a story that will lead to other stories. It’s innate to the DNA that that’s the end of a trilogy but it’s the beginning of a whole other element of the Marvel Cosmic universe. That’s a part of what I’m doing now.”
Gunn also revealed that two creatures spotted during Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Yondu and Kraglin’s journey across the universe could return:
“They’re called Kronans, is what they are, and they’re specific characters. You might see them somewhere else in the future…”
