With Avengers 3 and 4 tying into future Guardians of the Galaxy installments, the sequel to Vol.2 is being put on hold until the Avengers film release.

It appears that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is being put on the back-burner to accommodate Marvel’s upcoming Avengers 3 and 4. James Gunn, director and writer of the previous two films, will be returning to helm the third installment of the franchise.

Thanks to an interview with Fan Fest, Sean Gunn, actor and brother to James Gunn shared the news:

With the events of the forthcoming Avengers films tying into the future of the Guardians films, this news assures us that quality is being put in front of quantity. Since the two Avengers films will feature the Guardians cast, it’s safe to assume that what happens to them in those films will directly tie into the events of any forthcoming films.

Directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Micheal Rooker, Kurt Russell, and the voices of Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.
