‘Guardians Vol. 2’: James Gunn Explains How Yondu’s Arrow Works

Hands down, my favorite part of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is the role that Michael Rooker’s character Yondu plays in the film’s story. He’s such a great character, brought to life beautifully by Rooker, and he’s also got one of the coolest weapons, the whistle-controlled Yaka Arrow.

Taking to Twitter, Director James Gunn recently took a moment to explain a little bit about the workings of the Yaka Arrow, a concept Gunn himself created, as the Yondu of the comics was more in line with a traditional archer. Here’s what Gunn stated in a series of tweets:

Gunn’s tweets were originally in response to a video he shared that was released by Nerdist, an episode of Because Science w/ Kyle Hill, which scientifically breaks down how the weapon works.

When a fan attempted to point out that it was peculiar that the fins or headpieces are so common while the arrow is so rare, well, the always one-step-ahead-of-us Gunn had an answer for that as well:
