‘Guardians of the Galaxy’: Kevin Feige Teases The “Cosmic Universe” and…

Marvel’s confidence in their films has grown over time, with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 being the latest example. With their cinematic universe growing and being more complex than ever, it’s a sure bet that things will change over time. James Gunn, director of the Guardians franchise, has said that the third installment in his series will set up the next 10 Marvel movies, but what does that mean? Guardians of the Galaxy 3 currently doesn’t have a release date, but it’s a no-brainer that it’ll come out after Avengers 4, so what’s next after the showdown with Thanos?

In a recent interview with Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige, Fandango asked Feige what to expect in the coming future.

“I think it’s a little early to know what it’s going to look like, I think things are going to look very different at that point, but I think the early discussions we’ve had with James [Gunn] about Vol. 3 and beyond with what we’ll call the “Cosmic Universe” and the Guardian characters is very exciting. Which is why he signed up and we announced that even before Guardians Vol. 2 came out.”

Marvel has been branching out of and focusing on other aspects of their world, like the magical side in Doctor Strange, and other planets in Thor: Ragnarok. It’s fair to assume that after Avengers 4, the studio won’t be limited to simply Earth and Asgard. Guardians of the Galaxy has done a great job of introducing us to new worlds, characters, and ideas that will more than likely influence the coming events.

Feige later went on to discuss how the 5 post-credits scenes at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 will impact the Marvel Cinematic Universe, citing what will be a “new age” of Marvel movies.

“As you know from the comics, there are so many places to go and so many more characters, and there are a few characters hinted at in the [end] tag scenes of Vol. 2. All of which could be potential to see and explore more in the new age following our big Avengers films.”

Directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Micheal Rooker, Kurt Russell, and the voices of Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits cinemas on May 5.
