Taika Waititi Supports James Gunn Returning For ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’

Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi expressed his support for James Gunn returning to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Last summer, Disney fired James Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after offensive social media posts written by the filmmaker were brought back to the public sphere by right-wing commentators. Since then, a significant number of fans have been calling on Disney to rehire James Gunn, with Edgar Wright and Chris Miller expressing their own support for Gunn being reinstated earlier this week. Director Taika Waititi responded to Chris Miller’s post by stating that he would also like to see James Gunn return to the director’s chair, joking that he could bring new energy and style that was missing from the previous Guardians of the Galaxy films.

James Gunn had completed his script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and production was scheduled to begin early next year. However, the project has been put on hold following the decision to remove Gunn as the director of the final chapter in the trilogy, though Disney and Marvel Studios are said to be intent on using his script.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected to star Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, and Sean Gunn.

Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest updates on the Marvel Studios film as it develops!
