On the list, Guillermo del Toro surprisingly did not mention his own adaptations but he did list many others that were obvious choices and a few that were not so obvious: You can see the full Tweet below.
Guillermo del Toro is, of course, no stranger to superhero adaptations. He first directed Blade II back in 2002 before moving on to Hellboy in 2004. He eventually co-wrote and directed its sequel, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, in 2008. Sadly neither film performed all that well at the box office and the planned Hellboy III was scrapped.
Since then, the director has been linked to several projects that never quite got off the ground. He reportedly left the Hobbit films due to them taking to long to be greenlit and had his own passion project, At The Mountains of Madness, canceled by Universal. He was also attached to direct an adaptation of Justice League Dark back when the DC Extended Universe looked like a viable competitor to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Luckily, Guillermo del Toro’s luck seems to be on the rise. Last year, he won two Oscars for Best Picture and Best Director for his work on The Shape of Water and seems to be reviving long-term projects that never got off the ground. Let’s hope that he can keep this new momentum going!
