The premium cabler made the announcement in the new teaser trailer for the series, revealing never before seen footage from the upcoming show.
HBO’s Watchmen hails from Lindelof who serves as executive producer on the series alongside Nicole Kassell, Tom Spezialy, Stephen Williams, Joseph Iberti. Lindelof has written the series with Kassell directing the pilot.
Not much is known about the show’s plot. But it was previously confirmed that Jeremy Irons will portray an older version of Adrian Veidt, the brilliant and wealthy industrialist who previously assumed the superhero name Ozymandias. In Alan Moore’s original Watchmen comic, Ozymandias orchestrated a fake alien invasion and killed thousands in an attempt to prevent nuclear armageddon and bring humanity together against a common but fictional enemy.
In addition, Jean Smart takes on the role of FBI agent Blake, who is tasked with tracking down vigilantes. Smart’s character shares the same surname as the original Watchmen character Edward Blake, who is commonly known as The Comedian to fans. In the comic, The Comedian is a vigilante turned government operative whose death serves as the impetus for the story created by Alan Moore’s. But whether or not Agent Blake and The Comedian are related remains a mystery.
Based on characters from Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ limited comic series, Watchmen is produced by White Rabbit in association with Warner Bros. Television.
Watchmen stars Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, and Dylan Schombing. Here’s the official logline:
