‘Game Of Thrones’: HBO Developing Multiple Spinoffs

Variety reports HBO has closed deals with four different writers to develop potential spinoffs based off of the premium cable channel’s hit fantasy series Game of Thrones.

The four writers developing the projects are Max Borenstein (Kong: Skull Island),  Jane Goldman (Kingsman: The Golden Circle), Brian Helgeland (Legend), and Carly Wray (Mad Men, The Leftovers) with Goldman and Wray each working directly with Game of Thrones author and creator George R. R. Martin.

Game of Thrones executive producers and showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff, as well as Martin, are attached to all four projects but Martin will not actually write on any of them. At this point, HBO does not have a timeline for development of the projects as a spokesperson stated that the writers will be allotted the proper amount of time they need:

“We’ll take as much or as little time as the writers need and, as with all our development, we will evaluate what we have when the scripts are in.”

As for the spinoffs themselves, HBO programming president Casey Bloys said last fall that a prequel series was still a possibility. The current series has already flashed us back during the time of Robert’s rebellion as it revealed Jon Snow’s past. It’s also possible the premium cable channel could explore the known world’s history based on The World of Ice & Fire: The Untold History of Westeros and the Game of Thrones by Martin.

So what do you think? Would you like to see a Game of Thrones spinoff? How would you feel about a direct prequel to the current series?  Or would you like to see more on the history of Westeros? Let us know in the comments below
