HBO Max Expected To Release Major DC Projects With Big Budgets

HBO Max is reportedly expecting Warner Bros. to produce exclusive content for the streaming that includes DC Comics productions.

WarnerMedia is set to enter the streaming service business when HBO Max launches next year. While HBO Max will include a library of previous Warner Bros. content, Variety reports the streaming service is expected to ‘lean’ on the studio to produce new and exclusive content, including DC projects.

According to the outlet’s report, HBO Max is hoping Warner Bros. will provide it with eight to ten films, with that number expected to increase over time. Some of those films could be produced or overseen by Greg Berlanti, who currently has an overall deal with Warner Bros. and produces several DC television projects.

The report states that some of these projects could be produced with budgets on the level of major feature films. Down the line, these productions could include projects “hailing” from WarnerMedia’s in-house comic book division, DC Entertainment.

Previously announced projects being developed for WarnerMedia’s HBO Max include a Dune series centered on an order of women known as the Bene Gesserit, with Denis Villeneuve directing the pilot episode. Furthermore, WarnerMedia’s streaming service will include Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, an animated prequel series revealing the origins of the cute but dangerous creatures.

HBO Max is currently scheduled to launch commercially in the spring of 2020 with an anticipated 10,000 hours of premium content.
