HBO Max Officially Launches Ad-Supported Subscription Option

The ad-supported version will cost $9.99.

WarnerMedia has officially launched a cheaper, ad-supported version of HBO Max.

HBO Max is one of the most popular streaming services in the United States thanks to its robust and diverse library, encompassing practically a century of Warner Bros. projects. What makes it even more popular is the Warner Bros. day and date pledge for 2021, which sees blockbusters like The Suicide Squad arriving on the platform the same day they arrive in cinemas. HBO Max has something for everyone and with this new cheaper, ad-supported version, the streaming service can cater to those who don’t want to break the bank.

The new subscription option costs $9.99, pricing it competitively with other streaming services. The premium, non-ad version comes at $14.99, which is a bit more expensive than the likes of Netflix and Disney Plus, but Warner Bros. catalog does speak for itself. If you’re considering the $9.99 ad-supported version but worry that the advertisements will be intrusive, fret not! Warner Bros. has confirmed that for every hour of content consumed, viewers won’t get more than four minutes worth of ads, which is quite a conservative number when compared to traditional cable advertisement models.

Unfortunately, the $9.99 ad-supported version of HBO Max doesn’t offer the 2021 day and date pledge, meaning you won’t be able to check out The Suicide Squad at home the day it hits cinemas. It’s unfortunate, but a wise idea would be to switch up the subscription options and upgrade for months where you want to see the latest Warner Bros. films. All in all, this new ad-supported version will capture an entirely new, financially-conscious market for HBO Max!

Are you going to get the cheaper version of the streaming service? Or are you going to spring for the premium version so you can catch all the latest movies? Comment below and let us know!
