HBO President Teases Future ‘Game Of Thrones’ Plans After Prequel

As Game of Thrones‘ final season approaches, HBO programming president Casey Bloys stated that the franchise may be expanded and continued after the prequel pilot.

During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the president stated a number of things. This included plans for a number of their properties including Watchmen and Leaving Neverland. The HBO president also had a number of things to say about Game of Thrones and its future beyond the main series and the upcoming prequel series.

During the interview, he was asked what is next for Game of Thrones and if they would be airing something related every quarter the way AMC does with The Walking Dead. Bloys stated that they might do something. It, however, depends on how well the pilot for the prequel series goes and promises a much more diverse slate than just George R.R. Martin related content:

It’s a great world and great IP. We’re going to do the pilot, see how it goes. Is it possible we do another one? Maybe. But I don’t want HBO to become a network that airs just Game of Thrones or Game of Thrones prequels. It should be said that Game of Thrones has been an incredible show for us but what we’re doing is a much more diversified slate so that we’re not in a position that we have to get the Game of Thrones franchise up and running or the lights are going out at HBO. That is not the situation and it never has been.

From the sound of things, HBO’s programming president doesn’t want HBO to become the Game of Thrones network.

What do you all make of this news? Would you like to see more Game of Thrones content outside of the upcoming prequel? Should HBO focus on more original content? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
