When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. Thankfully, the former occurred today because we were blessed with the official title and synopsis for the Game of Thrones Season 6 premiere, airing April 24! Ready for it?
601: “The Red Woman”
“Jon Snow is dead. Daenerys meets a strong man. Cersei sees her daughter again.”
Short, blunt and to the point. No ambiguity – Jon Snow is D-E-A-D. Then again, the title, “The Red Woman,” seems to point to Melisandre (Carice van Houten), a priestess of the Red God R’hllor, a vocation that has proven to be death-defying, vis-a-vis Thoros of Myr resurrecting the outlaw Beric Dondarrion six times. However, never put it past this show to misdirect or refer obscurely. It’s possible this is a different priestess entirely, perhaps in Essos and perhaps related to Daernerys (just spitballing).
HBO also released a full description for the sixth season of the fantasy hit.
“Following the shocking developments at the conclusion of season five, including Jon Snow’s bloody fate at the hands of Castle Black mutineers, Daenerys’ near-demise at the fighting pits of Meereen, and Cersei’s public humiliation in the streets of King’s Landing, survivors from all parts of Westeros and Essos regroup to press forward, inexorably, towards their uncertain individual fates. Familiar faces will forge new alliances to bolster their strategic chances at survival, while new characters will emerge to challenge the balance of power in the east, west, north and south.”
The show returns April 24 at 9 p.m. EST on HBO.
