Sony’s ‘Masters of the Universe’ Release Date Pushed Back

The release date for Sony’s upcoming Masters of the Universe reboot reportedly starring Noah Centineo has been pushed back to 2020.

Sony’s Masters of the Universe was originally set for a December 2019 release date with filming starting this summer. News has broken that Noah Centineo will star as He-Man in the reboot and will be directed by The Nee Brothers. However, Sony has not confirmed the directors or Noah Centineo for the film. Sony did announce on Wednesday the film will move from its December 18, 2019 spot to avoid Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and move to 2020.

The upcoming reboot centers on the conflict between He-Man, the secret identity of Prince Adam, and the villainous sorcerer Skeletor on the planet Eternia. The franchise previously spawned an animated TV series that ran from 1983 to 1985 and 1987 live-action film starring Dolph Lundgren.

The Nee Brothers, Adam, and Aaron Nee are reportedly directing the reboot from a script written by Iron Man writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. Sony’s Matthew Milam will oversee the project for the studio and Mattel is a partner on the film. Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch are producing alongside Franklin Entertainment’s DeVon Franklin. While David S. Goyer previously in talks to direct the film, he remains on board the project as an executive producer and screenwriter.
