Back in 2004, director Guillermo del Toro and actor Ron Perlman brought Hellboy to the big screen for the first time. In 2008’s Hellboy II: The Golden Army, the duo returned with a new cast of characters and fantastic story that left the door open for a third installment but after years of online petitions and fan outcry, the trilogy-ending film never came to fruition.
However, the loveable anti-hero is headed back to the big screen played by Stranger Things star David Harbour in this April’s Hellboy. The reboot, from director Neil Marshall, is aiming for a hard-R rating as opposed to the PG-13 ratings carried by the previous two films. Check out the latest trailer for Hellboy below.
Hellboy was originally supposed to be released a couple of months back, in January, but was bumped up to a new April release date, which places the film in a very crowded time for comic book films. Hellboy will now hit theaters one month after the Marvel Studios solo adventure Captain Marvel debuts and one week after Warner Bros. and DC’s upcoming superhero origin story Shazam! opens in theaters. This new release window also means that Hellboy will open in theaters just two weeks before another highly-anticipated Marvel Studios film, Avengers: Endgame.
We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding Hellboy as soon as more information becomes available. What’s your opinion on the new Hellboy trailer? Did it get you hyped for the David Harbour-starring reboot or does it make you crave the third Guillermo del Toro film even more? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
