‘Hellboy’ Director Says Reboot Will Be ‘More Violent and More Bloody’

During an interview with Empire, director Neil Marshall offered more insight into how the Hellboy reboot will be different than the original films.

Game of Thrones director Neil Marshall will helm a new Hellboy film with Stranger Things star David Habour as the titular demon. However, many fans are curious to know how the new film will differentiate itself from the previous two installments helmed by Guillermo del Toro and Marshall noted that the reboot will turn to the darker elements of the source material:

“It was always a case of, ‘When in doubt, go back to the source material.’ Some of the stuff is pretty sick. More violent and more bloody. We weren’t making it with handcuffs on.”

Hellboy is aiming for an R-rating as it will have a darker, greater emphasis on horror than its predecessors as it attempts to differentiate itself from the previous films from Guillermo del Toro and go for a tone closer to that of the original source material.

Directed by Neil Marshall from a script written by co-written by character creator Mike Mignola, Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden, and Aron Coleite, Hellboy stars David Harbour, Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, Sasha Lane, and Daniel Dae Kim.
