‘Hellboy’ Featurette Explores The Impressively Gory Practical Effects

A new Hellboy featurette explores the world of practical effects, giving fans a glimpse of how the film crew wanted to keep the film as practical as possible.

The Hellboy franchise is returning to theaters this year with David Harbour as the beast from hell replacing Ron Perlman from the Guillermo del Toro films, in a new continuity that will reboot the series. Guillermo del Toro brought Hellboy to the big screen in 2004 with incredible visuals, mixing impressive digital effects with equally-as-impressive practical effects.

The new Hellboy is directed by Neil Marshall and the director has stated that this will be a much darker film than the previous ones. Along with the tone, it appears the director also wants to maintain the use of practical effects in the film. This new featurette proves their use of practical effects is very much maintained with some incredible work on the creatures of the film. You can view the featurette for Hellboy below.

Based on the graphic novels by Mike Mignola, Hellboy, caught between the worlds of the supernatural and human, battles an ancient sorceress bent on revenge.

Directed by Neil Marshall from a script co-written by character creator Mike Mignola, Andrew Cosby, and Christopher Golden, Hellboy stars David Harbour, Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, Daniel Dae Kim, and Sasha Lane.

Hellboy will be released in theaters on April 12, 2019.
