Ron Perlman Talks ‘Hellboy’ Franchise Moving On From Him & Guillermo del Toro

Despite being cult-favorites to many fans, Guillermo del Toro’s Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army were both modest box office hits. Fans loved del Toro’s approach to the Dark Horse Comics series with his distinct directorial vision, particularly with The Golden Army. Along with del Toro’s direction, fans absolutely adored Ron Perlman in the role as well.

For years, both del Toro and Perlman expressed a desire to complete the series as a trilogy. Unfortunately, Hellboy III is a lost cause like Sam Raimi’s cancelled Spider-Man 4 and instead, Lionsgate will be rebooting the franchise with Stranger Things star David Harbour in the titular role.

Perlman recently expressed his disappointment about never getting Hellboy III to come into fruition. Now, he reveals in a new interview that he and del Toro have made peace with that fact and expresses that he’s moved on:

“Well I’m pretty much at peace with what we were able to accomplish with two films and I’m also very much at peace with we put up as noble a fight as we could to complete the trilogy.  But it wasn’t to be.  I have completely moved on and what happens in the future in regards to that title is really none of my business.”

Are you still bummed that Hellboy III will never see the light of day? Are you more excited for the reboot with Harbour? Sound off in the comments below, and be sure to continue following Heroic Hollywood for all the latest news for the upcoming Hellboy reboot.

Hellboy is aiming for an R-rating as it will have a darker, greater emphasis on horror than its predecessors as it attempts to differentiate itself from the previous films from Guillermo del Toro and go for a tone closer to that of the original source material.

Directed by Neil Marshall from a script written by co-written by character creator Mike Mignola, Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden, and Aron Coleite, Hellboy stars David Harbour, Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, Sasha Lane, and Daniel Dae Kim.

Hellboy hits theaters on April 12, 2019.
