Henry Cavill Reportedly Still Wants To Play Superman In ‘Man of Steel’ Sequel

Graphic designer and podcaster Roger Roecken claims he met Henry Cavill at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con and learned the actor wants to play Superman again in a sequel to Man of Steel.

Henry Cavill made his debut as Superman in Zack Snyder’s 2013 DC Comics movie Man of Steel before reprising the role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and then Justice League. Since then, Cavill’s future as Superman has been in doubt amidst reports of contentious contract negotiations with Warner Bros. and the studio’s reported plans to shelve the character for the time being.

However, Roecken crossed paths with Henry Cavill at San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend and recounted a conversation he had in which the actor expressed his desire to reprise his role as Superman in a sequel to Man of Steel. According to Roecken, Henry Cavill wants to explore how Superman would be affected by having “absolute power”  and said there are many stories left to tell.

Henry Cavill’s future as Kal-El is currently uncertain as the actor will soon trade in his Superman suit for the lead role in Netflix’s adaptation of The Witcher. Last year, Cavill dropped out of talks to return as Superman for a cameo in the Shazam! movie. Shazam! still managed to feature a cameo from his version of Superman, though the film was not able to show the Man of Steel’s head in the frame of his shots as Henry Cavill still had yet to work out a deal with Warner Bros. and DC Films by the time the film was released. Rumors have also swirled suggesting that Warner Bros. will be focusing on Supergirl in the DCEU going forward instead of Superman. 22 Jump Street writer Oren Uziel is writing the script for the Supergirl film which will be an origin story for Kara Zor-El.

Henry Cavill can be as Superman in Man of SteelBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. After The Witcher, Cavill will next be seen in Enola Holmes with Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown.

Henry Cavill was last seen as Superman in Justice League:

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.

Justice League is now available on Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital HD. Stay tuned for more updates on the future of the DC Extended Universe.
