Henry Cavill dons Nicolas Cage’s Superman Lives costume in this new image that reimagines the DCEU’s Man of Steel.
For those of you shocked with the title of this article: yes, Nicolas Cage was once cast to play Clark Kent/Superman way before Henry Cavill came on board for the DCEU. Back in 1998, Nicolas Cage was supposed to portray Superman in the cancelled Superman Lives film. The film was supposed to pit Superman against Doomsday and feature Clark Kent and Lois Lane’s son as a new Superman. Kevin Smith wrote it while Tim Burton was set to direct it.
In any case, digital artists still remember this and try to imagine how Henry Cavill would look with Nicolas Cage’s Superman Lives suit. And, to be honest, the result is quite interesting. Check it out:

Henry Cavill is no longer contracted to appear in other DCEU related films as he reportedly walked away from negotiations to cameo in Shazam! with Zachary Levi due to scheduling conflicts. Henry Cavill’s Superman would make a great tutor for Zachary Levi’s Shazam due to the fact that Billy Batson’s only a kid with superpowers and Clark Kent’s been around to face several enemies like General Zod, Lex Luthor, Doomsday, and even Batman.
As you may know, Henry Cavill’s been very busy filming Justice League, Mission: Impossible and Netflix’s The Witcher for the past few years, so he probably didn’t have the time to make an appearance in Zachary Levi’s Shazam!. Although the rumor now points out that this wasn’t a problem for DC and Warner Bros. and that Henry Cavill’s Superman will indeed meet Zachary Levi’s Shazam soon.
What do you think about Henry Cavill’s future in the DCEU? Will Henry Cavill reprise his Superman role again? Sound off in the comment section down below!
Although the next Superman film hasn’t been announced or slated yet, or if Henry Cavill will reprise his role, Supergirl is one of the many projects being developed over at Warner Bros. and DC. The studio has tasked Oren Uziel to pen the script. Meanwhile, Superman is still rumored to cameo in Zachary Levi’s Shazam!, but it’s unclear if we’ll see Henry Cavill. Here is the synopsis for DC’s next film:
We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Asher Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Zachary Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong).
Directed by David F. Sandberg, DC Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans, and Ron Cephas.
Zachary Levi’s Shazam! is now in theaters.
