Superman: The Last Son was written by Geoff Johns and Richard Donner. It shows Kryptonian Lor-Zod introduced as Clark Kent’s foster son Christopher Kent. It’s later revealed that Chris is actually General Zod’s biological son. The story hinges on how Zod uses Chris to escape the Phantom Zone and how his attempts are eventually foiled by Superman and the young Kryptonian.
As far as we know, no other Kryptonians survived Krypton’s explosion other than Kal-El and the ones in the Phantom Zone. It’s not that likely that we’ll see Henry Cavill dethroned as the only Superman, but no one knows anything for certain at this point.
Do you think it’s time we get another Superman other than Henry Cavill’s Kal-El in the DCEU? Which one do you think we should get? Sound off in the comment section down below!
Following Aquaman, which is now playing, the DCEU continues in April with Shazam! on April 5, 2019, which will be followed by Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) on February 7, 2020, and Wonder Woman 1984 on June 5, 2020. A standalone Joker film set outside of the DC Films universe starring Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince of Crime is also set to hit theaters October 4, 2019.
Although the next Superman film hasn’t been announced or slated yet, or if Henry Cavill will reprise his role, Supergirl is one of the many projects being developed over at Warner Bros. and DC. The studio has tasked Oren Uziel to pen the script. Meanwhile, Superman is still rumored to cameo in Shazam!, but it’s unclear if it will be Henry Cavill. Here is the synopsis for DC’s next film:
We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).
Directed by David F. Sandberg, DC Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans, and Ron Cephas.
Shazam! will be released in theaters on April 5, 2019.
