Heroic Civil War: Team Captain America vs. Team Iron Man Round 2

Team Iron Man

Iron Man may be the more popular choice between the two superheroes in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War. Yes, he has an incredible group of superheroes on his side that had me squealing like a kid in a candy store (don’t deny it…you know you actually freaked out seeing Spiderman). Yes, we are all about the cool, cutting-edge technology and gadgets Iron Man has.  However, I support Team Iron Man because Tony has taken accountability for his actions and is willing to come to terms with the mistakes he has made. Essentially, I am siding with Team Iron Man because Tony is realistic, human and a fearless leader.

When we first met Tony Stark we could easily define him as his iconic slogan splashed across tee shirts around the world: “Genius. Billionaire. Playboy. Philanthropist.”  He was snarky, smart but really set in his ways. In the last eight years since we met Tony Stark he has undergone a remarkable and life changing transformation. Due to all of these traumatic experiences, Tony has come out humbled. He has learned from his experiences and is taking full accountability for his actions. Tony now understands the ramifications of his actions and has fully grasped the true meaning of the timeless saying “with great power, comes great responsibility”.  In my opinion, that is what a true leader does. They accept their mistakes, take accountability for their actions and focus on doing what is best for the bigger picture.

While Captain America may represent loyalty, freedom, and the do-good ideals of our nation, Captain America is basically throwing all logic to the wind and abusing his superhero status to save his friend. Although that’s noble of him, he really has shown zero care for how this affects anyone else, which in my opinion, is really selfish. It’s basically like he took a gigantic step back because of Bucky. And last I checked, being a superhero is about being selfless not selfish.

Being a strong leader and a hero is about doing the right thing. Tony Stark is accepting responsibility for the damage he has caused and is now taking the proper precautions to make sure those damages do not occur again. This is a mature decision versus throwing all caution to the wind to save your brainwashed bestie. Tony is smart, capable and willing to do what is not only best for himself, the Avengers, but the world.
