Hugh Jackman Hurt Himself Multiple Times With Wolverine Claws

When you play Wolverine for 17 years and 9 movies, you are bound to gain a few scars over time. Hugh Jackman ended up with his fair share.

As one might imagine, it’s not easy having six inch claws extending from your knuckles when you’re acting. In an interview with EW, Hugh Jackman revealed that he hurt himself quite a few times with his prop claws during his 17 year career playing the Wolverine. But it doesn’t stop there; he stabbed a stunt actress at one point as well!

“I can’t tell you how many people I stabbed, how I stabbed myself,” Jackman said. “They were killing machines.”

Jackman recounted the particular instance of accidentally stabbing the stunt double for Mystique during the first X-Men film, which ended in a pretty unexpected but humorous way.

“I stabbed the [stunt] double for Mystique right in the arm,” he recalled of a previous X-Men film. “Of course I freaked out a little bit. It’s not every day you stab someone.”

“She said, ‘I’ve been stabbed by Wolverine!’ That was one of the first days of shooting. That’s when you realize this is not a normal character, when people are really happy to be stabbed by your character.”

Although stabbing another actress is probably more than a little distressing, coming too close to parts of your own body is no joke either. Turns out, Jackman’s thighs might look more like Deadpool’s than we think.

“I used to have to practice so I wouldn’t hit people [with the claws]. And one thing I neglected to practice was the follow-through. … I’ve got a number of scars on my thighs, and it’s really not cool. Got pretty close to some sensitive areas, but everything’s fine.”

Hugh Jackman can be seen as Wolverine for the final time in Logan. It’s currently one of the highest rated superhero movies of all time and is quite the farewell for such an important character.
