Now Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has been in theatres for just over a month, we’re starting to see more official stills from the final film in the Skywalker saga. Most recently, the Star Wars website revealed a new The Rise of Skywalker image of Ian McDiarmid’s Palpatine, who returned to the role for the first time in fourteen years. In the image, Ian McDiarmid’s Palpatine is seated on his throne that also holds his life support.

The image of Palpatine was added to the Star Wars databank which has a bevy of information on planets, vehicles and characters. In the updated Emperor Palpatine column, the site mentions how Ian McDiarmid’s return to the character was first teased through a transmission.
Ian McDiarmid’s return as Emperor Palpatine was met with mixed reception from fans and critics. Many praised how Palpatine’s inclusion bridged Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker with the original and prequel trilogies, while others found Ian McDiarmid’s return to be a cheap ploy at mining nostalgia. Regardless, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has broken through the billion dollar barrier, despite being the lowest-rated film in the franchise on Rotten Tomatoes.
