Fans of Supergirl have been guessing the identity of Cyborg Superman for a while now, and it's about as obvious as fans of the comic expected.
DC Entertainment recently released an all-access video that confirms the identity of Cyborg Superman to be Hank Henshaw (played by David Harewood), the D.E.O. director who died protecting J’onn J’onnz, who has been impersonating Henshaw all the while. With Henshaw apparently resurrected, he now has a reason to be angry over what’s occurred in his absence (notably aliens essentially taking over the D.E.O.)
He’s been enhanced by Cadmus, the notorious anti-metahuman institute, but he’s Cyborg Superman all the same, which comic readers have seen coming since Henshaw made an appearance in the first episode of the show. The original character made his debut after the “Death of Superman” event in the 90s as a Superman impersonator, and the show is obviously departing from that storyline entirely (it’s even a far cry from what Rebirth did with Henshaw recently in the comics).
We’ll see how everything fully plays out soon, as Hank Henshaw returns in the next Supergirl episode, “The Darkest Place” on November 21st on The CW.
