Idris Elba stated that he thinks it is time for a woman to take up the role of James Bond in order to keep the franchise fresh.
While promoting his directorial debut, Yardie, at the Sundance Film Festival, Idris Elba sat and spoke with Variety, and briefly brought up his thoughts on the British spy now that Daniel Craig is on his way out of the role. Elba suggested:
“It could be a woman, could be a black woman, could be a white woman, but I think, that character, everybody would like to see it have — do something different with it, why not?”

While Idris Elba may not agree with the internet’s choice to cast him as James Bond, he does seem to agree that something needs to be done with the character to keep it fresh. After running for a total of 26 seasons, Doctor Who has made the jump to have a woman play the titular character. If that works well for BBC, we may see a woman with a license to kill the next time around.
Bond 25 is slated to hit theaters November 8, 2019, with Daniel Craig set to reprise the role of James Bond.
