Steven Spielberg says 'Indiana Jones 5' will be Harrison Ford's final time playing Indy and suggests the franchise would move forward with a female lead.
Spielberg discussed how he believes it is time for the titular adventurer to take a “different form” and suggested that a woman could lead the franchise in the future:
“We’d have to change the name from Jones to Joan. And there would be nothing wrong with that.”
Regardless of what direction the film series takes, Spielberg believes Indy’s fifth journey mark Ford’s final time playing the role:
“This will be Harrison Ford’s last Indiana Jones movie, I am pretty sure, but it will certainly continue after that.”
Spielberg will direct the fifth Indiana Jones film from a screenplay written by David Koepp. John Williams, who composed the music for all 4 of Indy’s adventures, will return to write the score.
