‘Infinity War’ Book Explains How Thanos Survived Titan’s Destruction

So just how did Thanos end up surviving the destruction of Titan in Avengers: Infinity War? Well, the best answer is be quiet and don’t question it. The Mad Titan is on a quest to gather all the Infinity Stones so he can snap half of humanity out of existence. But okay, that’s neither the correct nor the practical answer. As we know, Titan is where Thanos hails from, and the planet’s failure to heed his warning led to its ultimate destruction.

Okay, but Infinity War doesn’t exactly say how Thanos survived, not that it’s necessary, of course. But in the book Avengers: Infinity War – The Art of the Movie, it’s revealed that Thanos had been exiled from Titan for his proposal. As such, he wouldn’t have been present for the film’s destruction in the first place. And it’s this incident that provides Thanos with his motivation to gather the Infinity Stones so that when he’s done, half of humanity would still exist.

Admittedly, suggesting that you wipe out half of your planet’s population in order to control it is a gutsy proposition that would probably get anyone exiled, if not just laughed off of the stage, so perhaps Thanos’ mad suggestion ended up saving him in the end. Heck, he did achieve his goal by the end of Infinity War, so he’s got that going for him unless that ends up being undone in Avengers 4.

Perhaps if Thanos were to ever pop up again in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Avengers 4, maybe, say, in The Eternals film, more light could be shed on his history with Titan, but time will tell if we’ll get to learn more about his failed plan to save his planet. Meanwhile, what do you feel about this explanation? In the grand scheme of things, did you need to know how he survived Titan’s destruction? Let us know in the comments below.

Avengers: Infinity War is available now on Digital HD, 4K, Blu-Ray, and DVD.
