Iron Fist’s Origin Story Will Be Completed In ‘The Defenders’

When viewers reunite with Danny Rand (Finn Jones) when Marvel’s The Defenders premiers on Netflix, they will see that the immortal Iron Fist still has quite a bit of a journey to take to fully complete his origin story. Although we see much of his development in Marvel’s Iron Fist, seeing Danny alongside Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) and Luke Cage (Mike Colter) will certainly push him to fully embrace what it means to harness his powers.

While promoting The Defenders, Jones talked about how Danny’s growth as a character reaches a turning point in the highly-anticipated event series:

“At the end of Iron Fist, [Danny] doesn’t even know what a superhero is. So then to suddenly be interacting with these three… [They] really make him kind of wise up and come to terms with his responsibilities a lot more. From the beginning where we see Danny in Iron Fist to where he ends up in The Defenders, he has made that complete origin arc. He has shed his immature self. The idea is, in The Defenders, he has in a sense become the Iron Fist.”

During Marvel and Netflix’s panel for The Defenders, it was officially announced that Iron Fist will be receiving a second season. Jones will reprise his role alongside Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing. Marvel’s Luke Cage star Simone Missick is expected to join the cast, reprising her role as Misty Knight as she is hinted to fight alongside Colleen.

Along with the announcement of a second season, original showrunner Scott Buck will leave his duties. Raven Metzner of Sleepy Hollow fame will take over the mantle as the season 2 showrunner.
