‘Iron Fist’ Won’t Feature Hero’s Comic Book Costume

Netflix’s upcoming Marvel TV show, Iron Fist, won’t feature the character’s iconic yellow and green costume, says showrunner Scott Buck in an interview with SFX.

While fans may be disappointed that the hero won’t be putting on the classic garb, Buck made it clear that he may don it sometime in the future. It makes sense that the character won’t be wearing a costume, considering how grounded the other Netflix Marvel TV shows are. The only hero who has a costume of sorts is Daredevil, and even his outfit began as a bunch of black rags which protected him and his identity to a certain degree.

“There was no good reason we could imagine to put Danny Rand in a costume. Because Danny Rand is still discovering who he is as a hero and where he is going to be, so he’s not yet ready to put on a mask or a costume.”

Both Luke Cage and Jessica Jones abstain from having either a mask or costume. After all, it doesn’t seem to fit their style.

“[A]t the same time he is someone who is rather well known as a billionaire, so he can’t necessarily go out in public and do the things he does without being recognised. It does become an issue for the character.”

This is an interesting predicament: stick to being grounded or protecting his identity. Guess we’ll have to see how the show handles it.

“We’re trying to keep things extremely grounded and real and tell our stories through characters. So the mystical aspect is something we like to hint at, the idea that there is something bigger and larger out there, but we don’t delve into it all that deeply.”

After being presumed dead for 15 years, Danny Rand returns to New York City where he takes on the family business and becomes the titular Iron Fist.

All Iron Fist episodes will be available on Netflix on March 17th.
