‘Iron Man’ Director Jon Favreau Wants Robert Downey Jr. To Direct A Marvel Film

Iron Man director Jon Favreau has been very busy these past few years but now he seems to want Robert Downey Jr. to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a director.

During an extensive interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jon Favreau talked about his various projects over the past few years. He was then asked about Robert Downey Jr. and what he will be doing in his post-Marvel life. Jon Favreau admitted that he did not know what Robert Downey Jr. was thinking but joked that if he didn’t direct they couldn’t be friends anymore.

The Iron Man director continued by praising Robert Downey Jr. Jon Favreau stated that Robert Downey Jr. understands visual art and music and thinks the actor would also make a great director:

“I don’t know what he’s thinking, but he better direct. Otherwise, I’m not going to be his friend anymore. He’s the star of the biggest movie of all time. He did it. So now, you better do stuff you love. Because if you can’t do what you love, how are you going to inspire everybody else out there who’s climbing that ladder? He has a lot of passion. He’s an artist: He understands visual art, he understands music. I think he would be a hell of a director. I hope I get to have a part if he ever decides to direct because I want to show him what it felt like when I was directing him. I want to give him the other side of that equation.”

Robert Downey Jr. made his final appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Iron Man in Avengers: Endgame. During the film’s finale, Iron Man ultimately sacrifices himself by taking all of the Infinity Stones and snapping Josh Brolin’s Thanos and his army into dust. Iron Man sadly died soon after. But, if Jon Favreau has his way, Robert Downey Jr. won’t entirely wash his hands clean of the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
