‘IT’ Sequel To Explore Stephen King’s Villain Pennywise In Depth

The sequel to this week’s IT movie is already in development following a wave of positive reactions to test screenings of the film and ballooning opening weekend projections. According to Pennywise actor Bill Skarsgård, the second part of King’s famous novel is going to explore the nature of the villainous clown in much greater detail.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, the cast touched upon the movie’s planned sequel in vague terms. Skarsgård himself said he couldn’t spoil anything, but he noted that his character is going to get a lot of emphasis as the Losers who fought against him are now adults:

“I am attached to it but that’s all I can say, we’re in the early stages and I’m talking to Andy about it and figuring out what It will be. It’s a different story but I’m excited to delve in deeper to the character as there’s more exploration for who Pennywise is.”

The movie’s sequel is set 27 years after the events of the original story, though it also features flashbacks to before the Losers parted ways. In general, it can be expected that some of the more violent tragedies Pennywise was responsible for will be fleshed-out on camera provided that the sequel has a larger budget – something that looks very likely considering that the movie’s set to overperform at the box office.

Andy Muschietti‘s IT will bring terror to the big screen on September 8, 2017, featuring a cast that includes Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise the Dancing Clown, Jaeden Lieberher as Bill Denbrough, Jeremy Ray Taylor as Ben Hanscom, Sophia Lillis as Beverly Marsh, Finn Wolfhard as Richie Tozier, Jack Dylan Grazer as Eddie Kaspbrak, Chosen Jacobs as Mike Hanlon, and Wyatt Oleff as Stanley Uris. A sequel covering the events from the second half of King’s book is planned, although no release date has been set.
