J.K. Simmons Talks Size Of Gordon’s Role In ‘Justice League’ & Future Films

Justice League will feature an all-star cast of characters. DC heavy hitters Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman will return, and The Flash, Cyborg, and Aquaman, who were introduced briefly in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, will have expanded roles in the film. That said, the recent casting addition of J.K. Simmons as Batman’s ally Commissioner James Gordon was an exciting get for Warner Bros. and adds further credibility to the big DC team-up. But just how much screentime will Commissioner Gordon have when compared to the likes of the Justice League, the villain, and other supporting characters? J.K. Simmons set the record straight.

“I don’t get started on that until June, and my part in the first one is very small. I’m excited to be playing that iconic character in that iconic series. I’m going into a thing that hopefully will be 2, 3, 4, maybe more movies for me, and my part in the first one is really very small. But obviously, we know who the guy is. We know his whole backstory, based on the comic book. So, I’m just gonna finish doing my research on that. And probably not watch the other actors who have played the part, because that is kind of intimidating, honestly, and I don’t think I would find that to be productive. So, I’ll do my take.”

So there you have it. It sounds like Gordon’s role in Justice League is minimal at best but will set the stage for what’s to come in Ben Affleck’s The Batman solo film in development that seems to be the start of big plans Warner Bros. has for Commissioner Gordon in DC Extended Universe films going forward.

Are you looking forward to seeing J.K. Simmons in action as Commissioner Gordon? What do you hope his role in Justice League entails?
