It’s been close to three decades since fans have seen the iconic villain Penguin on the big screen facing off against Batman. Actors like Steve Carrell, Josh Gad, and Jason Segal have all been person’s of interest amongst fans to play the role and now there’s a new name to add to the top hat, Jack Black.
Jack Black recently sat down with fellow castmate Owen Vaccaro to discuss The House With A Clock In Its Walls with ET Canada. Towards the end of the interview, he was asked about his interest in playing the role. This is what Jack Black had to say about the exciting topic:
“Uh, yeah. That would be a role. That would be fun.”
The actor than clarified that he believes it could be a good role for him to play, but he also knows that saying that will cause a whole lot of controversy in the media. He goes on to explain like this:
“I hate to sport myself out there and say that, because then when I don’t get that part, everybody’s like oh Jack tried to get the thing. I didn’t try anything. I’m just saying maybe that would be good.”
Jack Black then says his goodbye, but not before giving us fans his greatest Penguin laugh impression that will give listeners the chills. Maybe there’s some alternate universe where Jack Black plays the Penguin or just maybe he will in our lifetimes. At one time, Jack Black was going to play Green Lantern in a more comedic take on the character on the big screen but that never came to fruition and audiences instead got the 2011 Green Lantern film starring Ryan Reynolds. The actor who plays the villain of that film, Mark Strong, has since been cast as the villain of the upcoming DC Extended Universe film Shazam!, due in theaters this April.
