Costume Designer Jacqueline Durran Confirmed For Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’

British costume designer Jacqueline Durran has revealed that her next project is Matt Reeves’ The Batman.

In a recent interview with Deadline, Oscar-winning costume designer Jacqueline Durran confirmed that she is working on The Batman, the highly-anticipated DC Comics movie from Matt Reeves, the filmmaker behind Cloverfield and War for the Planet of the Apes. A frequent collaborator of directors Mike Leigh and Joe Wright, Jacqueline Durran is currently doing the press rounds for her work on the Sam Mendes-directed WWI epic 1917 and Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women.

During the interview, Deadline asked Jacqueline Durran what excited her about The Batman, which is her first forray into the world of comic book movies. Here’s what she told the site:

“I think it’s all about new worlds, really. What Matt Reeves’ Gotham is going to look like, and what the world that he’s creating around Batman is going to be, working that out—working out the characters, and the logic of that world—that’s the attraction of it.

It is like a myth, isn’t it? It’s something that just repeats, and you can repeat it, because you can change it—just like Little Women is changing, depending on which era we’re making it.”

Full plot details for The Batman are currently under wraps, though the film will center around a younger Bruce Wayne and feature a Rogues’ Gallery of villains that includes Catwoman, The Penguin, and The Riddler. The Matt Reeves film will follow Batman during his formative years as Gotham City’s protector and will make use of the Dark Knight’s detective skills to a greater extent than previous DC films. It is expected to be the first chapter in a new trilogy with Robert Pattinson as Batman.

Directed by Matt Reeves from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, Jayme Lawson as Bella, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Peter Sarsgaard. Recently, Colin Farrell is reportedly in talks to play the Penguin.

The Batman will be released in theaters on June 25, 2021.
